The principle of action and device

You must first comprehend the oven’s operating principle in order to determine the best way to assemble it by hand and avoid frustrating mistakes.

The rocket furnace’s operating mechanism serves as the foundation for the Robinson furnace’s functionality. In other words, they function essentially in the same way. The furnace is made up of two pipes joined at an angle to form two compartments. They are burned in a single horizontal pipe, which is where the firewood is actually laid. The second pipe heats up gradually as the firewood burns, and eventually it takes in the gas created during the combustion. Gases are also burned in this vertical pipe, which results in the output temperature reaching its maximum.

The duration of action and the Robinson furnace’s low firewood consumption could be considered its primary, even fundamental, characteristics. For instance, all you need an armful of chips or dry grass to warm up the kettle.

Device options

The two pipes that make up the furnace’s main parts can be placed in various locations. This accounts for the structure’s variability. The pipes are located in four primary locations:

  1. Close parallel. Positions in which the pipes are located close to each other, they are in contact, and their holes look upward. Firewood is laid in the hole of the small pipe, heat comes out through the hole. This position is convenient in that heating the entire structure occurs very quickly;
  2. Far parallel. The position of the pipes in this case is the same as in the first case, with the only difference being that now they are not in contact with each other. An additional pipe segment is held between them – a chimney that lengthens the path of burning gases. This segment can be used as an auxiliary hob;
  3. Corner location. In this case, a small pipe in which firewood will be laid is attached to a large pipe at an angle. The angle is about 45 degrees. This position of the pipe is very convenient when laying firewood;
  4. Double connection. With this connection, the presence of two small pipes is characteristic. They are located on the sides of the main large pipe, which in this case should be large diameter. That is, the firebox occurs from two points. Thus, the assembled stoves are heated very quickly and are intended mainly for prolonged heating

A plane that will act as a heating surface must be placed at the output of a vertical pipe in order to cook or reheat food using a Robinson furnace. It is important to keep in mind that this surface shouldn’t completely enclose the pipe’s hole; otherwise, the thrust will vanish and the heat won’t be distributed as intended.

Production of the furnace Robinson

The furnace’s factory model is easy to use and comfortable, but it has one drawback: it doesn’t have a lid. This is by no means an emergency on its own, but the absence of a door makes it impossible to regulate how firewood burns.

Some artisans still believe that the Robinson furnace’s factory model is the best, and they meticulously recreate its analogue by hand. Additional masters refine and enhance the initial version in different ways. Both the factory model and the enhanced option for producing the Robinson furnace will be discussed below.

Factory Robinson at home

Very little is needed to manufacture an industrial stove. The most important thing is to definitely adhere to the assembly plan. And the following preparations must be made for the materials:

  • 5 steel sheets 3 mm wide. They are necessary to create a fuel pipe, which in the factory format has the form of a rectangle. It is called fuel bunker. The dimensions of the plates are as follows: 300 × 150 mm (2 sheets), 100 × 300 mm (2 sheets) and 100 × 150 mm (1 sheet of this size). As a result, from the specified sheets, a bunker should be obtained, with dimensions – 150 × 100 × 300 mm;
  • 1 steel sheet size 150 × 200 mm, 3 mm wide. It is designed to separate the compartments;
  • 1 pipe with a diameter of 100 mm, 600 mm high;
  • Several pieces of reinforcement diameter 7-8 mm. The length of the segments should be 120 mm. Of these, a grille will be made;
  • Three steel rings diameter 100 mm and 25-30 mm long. And also one ring a little larger – 110 mm in diameter. The heating surface for cooking will be made of them. By the way, the shape of the heating surface should not be just that, it is not canonical. The main thing is that the surface does not fit tightly to the opening of the pipe;
  • Nuts D13 – 3 pieces. They will need to be attached to the welding apparatus to the bottom of the furnace. Subsequently, the legs of the unit will be inserted into them;
  • Directly the legs of the stove. They can be made as independently from steel rods with chopped threads, or take ready -made M8 bolts

The materials are basic and reasonably priced, as you can see. Now that everything is prepared, you can begin assembling. Because the pipe and bunker have different shapes, it will be a little more complicated, but nothing major will happen if you take your time and complete everything in stages. Thus, these are the stages of assembly:

  • Decoration of the dividing plate. For this, prepared pieces of reinforcement are welded, at a distance of 10 mm. As a result, a grate should be obtained;
  • The resulting plate with the grate must be welded to the back wall and the side of the future bunker. One nuance: the plate should be fixed strictly horizontally;
  • Gather the workpiece of the future furnace in the final version and weld the remaining walls;
  • Nuts are welded to the lower part of the bunker;
  • Next stage: pipe preparation. It must be cut a hole at an angle of 30 degrees. That is, as a result of cutting, it is not a circle, but an oval;
  • A finished pipe, put an oval to the bunker in the place where they will be connected. Circle the oval line with a marker. Cut the hole in the furnace along this line;
  • Now it remains to connect the pipe and bunker with a welding machine;
  • At the top of the pipe, the hob that is made of rings or any other shape joins;
  • The final step is to join the legs in the furnace, and if desired, staining

The complete process of manufacturing a furnace of the Robinson factory type will take no more than two to three hours, provided the master has the necessary dexterity and experience. Naturally, that is, if all the required tools and blanks are present.

Advocated by Robinson with your own hands

There are numerous instances of the updated furnace available today. There are so many different masters. We suggest examining the most basic and comparable factory version of the furnace mentioned above. It will be a stove with thickened rectangular pipes, a door, and a streamlined model of the cooking surface.

In order to produce this version of Robinson, you will need to gather the following supplies and equipment:

  • Rectangular pipe 400 mm long, with a section having parameters 160 × 160 mm. This is a workpiece for the future bunker;
  • A rectangular pipe 600 mm long, with parameters in a section of 120 × 120 mm – a future chimney;
  • Separate panel. Its dimensions – 5 mm thickness, 155 × 300 mm;
  • Metal plate with dimensions 180 × 350 mm. This is the future supply of the furnace;
  • Panel 160 × 100 mm

The description of the required materials makes it clear that the furnace will have walls that are 5 mm thick, making it more dense. The stand will also be more stable because it is one continuous sheet.

The following steps are comparable to those outlined above when assembling the Robinson furnace of the upgraded option:

  • First of all, the separation panel is fixed inside the bunker;
  • The lower part of the furnace is finally assembled;
  • A vertical chimney is welded;
  • Next, the collected design must be fixed on the panel-stand. This is done using a welding machine and support (a rod or corner);
  • The hob in this case is a piece of corners fixed at the output of the vertical pipe. The corners must be at least 40 mm in length so that the chimney has free traction;
  • The installation of the door is the last stage of installation. It can be fixed on loops, or a retractable mechanism

In both situations, the Robinson furnace’s trigger needs to be pulled after assembly. It will evaluate the furnace’s operation and point out any potential issues. You can proceed to the external design of the stove if everything is in order and it operates with diligence.

The stove should be painted with heat-resistant metal and the seams should be cleaned. The paint shields your stove from corrosion in addition to its aesthetic purpose.

Selecting the ideal heating system for your house is essential for cost-effectiveness, comfort, and efficiency. Of all the options available, the Robinson stove is a dependable and obedient option. Due to its long history of being a dependable heating option, many homeowners consider it to be a trustworthy companion.

The durability of the Robinson stove is one of its main benefits. Crafted with premium materials and skilled workmanship, these stoves are meant to last a lifetime.
