Initial conditions

The children’s room of a private residence was repaired; the need for reconstruction had been building for some time, and it was ultimately decided that there was no need to put off the work any longer.

The city of Bender in Transnistria, Moldova, was the location of everything that was described. In September 2016, the first ten days of work were completed. In other words, there have already been two winter seasons of using the developed system.

House built in the 1950s of the previous century. About 700 mm thick clay walls are warm enough for our climate without the need for extra thermal insulation. The intricacies of the walls, incidentally, imposed certain nuances on the trajectory of subsequent work; this will be addressed eventually.

Home during working hours. Everything looked much worse when I bought it.

The house was bought in 2002, and it had been vacant for a few years prior to our instillation. To have time to bring it into the insolent look by the next winter, I had to first get up. Given that the daughter was only three years old at the time, this was particularly true for the nursery.

The entire house’s floors are designed to be raised approximately 300 mm above the level of the soil backfill. They were robust and dependable, gathered from sturdy boards measuring 40 mm in thickness, even though they did not immediately please.

However, it was determined to lay a lovely blue carpet in the kids’ room because, at the age of fifty percent, children spend most of their time playing on floors. and gently and warmly.

The carpet was thought to be the best choice at the time because the quantity of construction and finished materials had not yet been noticed (but now that it has), anyway. We can say that at first he was attractive and appeared to be able to handle his responsibilities without any help. But over time, all of its bad traits showed themselves.

  • Firstly, he simply became ugly. A lot of spots that were not removed from the juices, tea spilled over the past years, and even from the printer cartridge spilled over the past years, were formed on its surface.
  • Secondly, he demanded almost daily cleaning with a vacuum cleaner. And the further – the more: even small garbage cannot be collected differently from its surface. And add to this the presence of cats (as without them in a private house) – and the picture will become clear.
  • Thirdly, he is outdated and morally. The grown -up daughter – a high school student categorically spoke out that she wanted to change the appearance of her "possessions". Well, has the right! She wanted a laminate, and even picked up the model that she liked in the store.

So, we’ve decided to replace the flooring. However, because laminate is a fairly "cold" material, the idea of heating the floor was also considered. Naturally, the system was installed primarily to create the most comfortable environment possible—that is, to make it pleasant to walk barefoot on the floor during pleasant autumn or winter weather—rather than in exchange for classical heating (since everything in the house is in order).

Let’s talk about a few aspects of the room. It is nearly square in shape and is only 6.5 m² in size. And it appears to be nothing special, but there are a few subtleties that made the work a little more difficult.

Characteristics of the space where the repairs were made

If we take “clean” sizes for calculations, then they are shown on the left fragment of the illustration. But in reality, the adobe walls, alas, do not differ evenly – on the right fragment the red line shows bends at the floor level. Of course, you can try to align the walls to the ideal – drywall to help. But this will certainly lead to loss of the already small area of the room. The existing curvature of the walls to feel the comfort of living for us did not affect us, and therefore only defects that were particularly distinguished against the general background were straightened out at one time. Partially, the disadvantages were hidden by the finish – lining the lining and the creation of the bedside shelf (it is shown in the scheme of the brown arrow, and it was decided to leave it only with a small “modernization”). But when laying a laminate at the starting stage, even a small remaining curvature still affected – this will be given attention below.

The second nuance, which is represented by the blue arrow in the diagram and is clearly visible in the above photo, is where the heating contour pipe passes along the outer wall just above the level of the old floor. The pipe has a slope because the previous heating system relied on natural circulation. A plywood sheet is gently adhering to the left side of the room beneath it, but there isn’t enough room for it. Additionally, this had an influence on later work.

After a quick computation, 30 boards were bought, consisting of three packages of nine pieces apiece plus three boards. A supply of roughly 10% was made, and it was considered that one board would reach the left shelf’s end. Layout of the room and the intended placement of the heating film components

The work area consisted of a desk (pos. 2) equipped with a computer situated in the right corner of the entrance. The second "comfort zone," a two-meter heating section, is located from the door to the table and partially beneath it (pos. 4).

The total amount of heating film elements required is three linear meters. With a width of 500 mm and a specific power of 220 W/m², the South Korean film was the best choice in terms of price and operating parameters. The system’s total power of only 330 W means that there shouldn’t be any special additional load on the home power supply.

The infrared heating film is referred to as "heaters" in the store where the "warm floor" set was bought. On the other hand, other names are exactly the same in other retail chains; it seems that the South Korean manufacturer produces it with varying "niming" in accordance with customer preferences.

A film heater was used to attach a pair of multi-core copper wires measuring 1.5 mm² each, insulated in blue and red, as well as a set of terminals and insulating linings, to the kit. Furthermore, a thermostat was bought individually and installed in a conventional socket. It was decided to go with a model that had button control and weekly programming operating modes.

Thus, the primary materials were bought. Others were employed; this will be brought up in a later presentation.

The work was supposed to take three days. However, as things actually turned out, five disappeared—inexperience, unanticipated issues, etc. However, everything was ultimately decided in favorably.
