When the flushing of heating is carried out

How to rinse the system – 3 available ways

In order to flush without specialized equipment, you can do the following:

  • local cleaning of radiators;
  • simple washing of pipes and heating devices with tap water;
  • chemical (otherwise – hydrochemical) cleaning of heating pipelines.

Citation. Hydropneumatic cleaning is used on apartment building centralized heat supply networks. The heat station’s elevator node is connected to a strong compressor. A mixture of water and air is pumped through the pipes and batteries of every apartment, tearing apart the particles of silt and even more of the solid deposits. The dirt is subsequently poured into the sewer.

The majority of homes lack compressor installations. A mixing camera and prior experience carrying out such procedures are also required; otherwise, you run the risk of violating the joints’ tightness. This indicates that the hydropneumatic approach is not valued for the system’s independent flushing. It is advised to begin with purifying non-functional batteries.

Cleaning radiators

Finding the defective battery is very easy: feel the entire surface with your palm, or use a contact or contactless thermometer to take temperature readings at various locations, and compare the results to the supply line’s temperature. Rinse the radiator if there is uneven heating in any areas.

The technology that is being described can be used in private homes that have water supply-based automatic heating. It is best to block the expansion tank and boiler valves only before washing. In all other situations, you must remove the radiator and give it a separate wash. Connecting the hose’s heating network with cold water is a risky option because a high pressure of 3 to 6 bar can cause the system’s tightness to be disturbed when water is supplied to the closed valve.

One benefit of disconnecting the battery is that it allows you to see inside the supply pipes. It is simple to determine that all heating pipelines need to be flushed again after noticing the deposits there, which cover about 1/3 or half of the passage.

Note: An expansion tank is in communication with the atmosphere in the open system. Water will seep through the top and start to drown the house if it is not possible to shut off the container with a tap and then rinse the battery through the feeding.

After more than a decade of service, cast iron radiators will undoubtedly need to be removed and cleaned using chemistry, such as a caustic soda solution (see the video below). It is improbable that the sediment at the bottom of each section can be removed with running water because it is rarely liquid.

Rinse with running water

The method’s main objective is to clear the system of dirt by using a lot of water from a centralized water supply network.   3. The boiler must be cut off from the system using cranes, it must be washed separately. Do not drive away all the dirt through its heat exchangers, especially for dual -circuit heat generators.
  4. Open the water valve, gradually increasing water consumption. As you know, the reverse flushing begins, that is, the flow moves towards the flow of the coolant in working mode.
  5. When a stream of drain hose becomes transparent, overlap the water, change the hoses in places and rinse heating in another direction – according to the movement of the coolant.
  6. At the end of hydraulic cleaning, we again fill out the system, start the boiler, check the operation of the batteries and make balancing.

An important nuance. It should be known that washing is accomplished by a high water flow via heating pipelines rather than by high pressure. Water can only be served via an open drain hose and not "on a closed valve." Tap water pressure is not intended for use with the heating network.

Tight washing requires first preparing the open tank system. There are two choices: either block the overflow pipe or use a crane to cut off the expansion container. Tanks without an upper cover can use the second method. In the event that this is not done, the water will overflow the reservoir and flow outside, leaving the system’s location uncleaned.

Chemical cleaning option

The cheapest method for manually flushing the heating system is this one. It is required for its execution:

  • the pump vibrational submersible household series, for example, “stream” (or similar);
  • Water filter in the form of a flask with 2-3 interchangeable cartridges;
  • a special tool for washing heating networks and radiators;
  • container for chemical solution;
  • Connecting fittings.

Three steps are involved in the process: first, contaminants are removed using running water; next, the chemical cleaning is carried out; and finally, finishing washing is done. A submersible pump and filter are used in the second stage, while a water supply is used in the first and third stages in accordance with the above technology.

How to chemically (in two stages) rinse the heating system:

  1. Prepare a flushing solution in a barrel, following the instructions on the package. The amount of fluid corresponds to the volume of the coolant in the heating network plus the capacity itself. How to choose a suitable chemical tool, we wrote at the end of the article.
  2. Connect the pressure pipe of the pump to the heating, immerse the device in the barrel. The filter is placed on the drain line, which is directed into the same container, as shown below in the video.
  3. Remove the net from the standard mud, wrap the empty cork back. Otherwise you have to clean it every 10 minutes.
  4. Turn on the pump, download the reagent into the system. Make sure that the solution flows into a barrel from a drain hose, and there are no leaks.
  5. Rinse heating communications until the water stream becomes lighter. The strongly contaminated filter cartridges must be changed during cleaning.
  6. Wash the remnants of chemistry from the radiator network with running water (3 stages).

Remind yourself. Only warm floors, radiators, and pipes should be affected by chemical flushing (if necessary). Pumping the reagent through the boiler is not advised; it is preferable to clean the components individually. The pipeline network or seal should be severed from the open-type expansion capacity.

How to rinse heating

Three different types of reagents are available for purchase in the retail network:

  • liquid concentrate;
  • powder;
  • Ready solution.

The manufacturer’s instructions must be followed when diluting concentrate and powder with water. Water usually reaches a temperature of 40 to 60 °C before cooking. After use, the completed heating system cleaning fluid is disposed of by pouring it into a barrel.

We offer several suggestions instead of rinsing the heating pipes:

  1. The active substances of the reagent should not damage the elements of your system, for example, interact with aluminum radiators. Choose chemistry taking into account the materials from which metal parts and fittings are made.
  2. It is better to buy flushing with various useful additives – corrosion inhibitors, biodegrading additives.
  3. In composition, the reagents are divided into 2 groups – acidic and alkaline. The former act faster, but are considered more aggressive in relation to equipment and hazardous to health. It is better to choose an alkaline concentrate.

Using various folk remedies, especially citric acid, for flushing is not advised. First off, it only works against scale, which is limited to the boiler’s heat exchangers. Second, it won’t work with a lot of water; a high concentration of acid solution is required.

Note: No further processing is needed; factory manufacturing reagents can be emptied into a shared sewer.

Step Description
